Treasury Casino Queensland Oaks Day - Eagle Farm, June 2
Weather: Overcast Rail: True Entire Course Track Rating: Heavy 8 Finalised 2/6: 7.46am
Race 1: I prefer to stay out of this race and just watch them go around to try and get a gauge on how this track is going to play. By all reports it will probably cut up. Sam’s Town has had plenty of racing, fit and should get through the going. Lovingthelimelight looks the one to beat.
Race 2: Racing Heart looks good value, great second-up record, heavy track winner. Viva Las should race handy and give a good sight. Mr Armstrong inconsistent, but wet track helps. St Germaine the main hope if runs up to previous start.
Race 3: Sizzling and Academus should fight this out again. Sizzling handled the heavy at the Gold Coast and should do the same here. Everything points to him loving the 1400m and gaping them.
Race 4: Leave me out of this one, too many old stayers. Shez Sensational and Lights Of Heaven, four-year-old mares should fight it out.
Race 5: Red Tracer is better than these, but is she wound up for this? I think not, she is here for the Tatt’s Tiara and I do not expect they will be flattening her on a heavy track today, although she does handle it. Wealth Princess was impressive last start, but no heavy track form. Divorces got to the line well at Doomben latest. Bonnie Mac faces toughest test, but has plenty of ability.
Roughie: (14) Alltherightmoves.
Race 6: Mental is good, but one alley could be his downfall here. Expect the fence will be a no go zone by this race and at short odds Mental has to be a huge risk. Locals Trump and Double Impact handle the going but Patinack three-year-old Boys On Tour is a swimmer. Emmalene did not get out last start and can improve.
Race 7: Quintessential caught the eye with a fast finishing effort last start, if she handles the track definitely the one to beat. Expect NZ Oaks winner Miss Artistic to race right on the speed, she has won at the trip and will give them something to catch. There are a lot of ifs and buts, but the above two and another Kiwi Poste Restante have all raced well over the journey in the NZ Oaks.
Roughie: (4) Angel Of Mercy.
Race 8: Track could be in bad shape by this race so fit wet-trackers is a likely winning recipe. Neeson and Celtic Dancer fit the mould. Riva de Lago placed in heavy racing well. If by chance the track is upgraded Belltone is the one after huge first-up run. He can still win, but has failed on the heavy.
Roughie: (8) Meet George.
