Doomben Look, March 24
Weather: Overcast Track Rating: Heavy 10, 9.30am. Factors: Be aware of the pattern of racing, with rail out 7.5 metres could favour on-pacers. Apprentice Matt McGuren has a great book of rides.
Race 1: McGuren's 3kg claim brings topweight Wonderful Jester in very well, could start a big day for Patinack. Fantisha was strong on debut in Mdn class, looks promising but short odds on heavy not for mine.
Race 2: Beggin is not the fastest conveyance but gets her chance here in weak race. Bitasilk, second up, comes in well with 3kg claim and is value chance. Zamboni is a solid chance and Miss Bradbury a hope if she gets through the ground.
Race 3: Many hopes, including topweight Contract Caterer (5kg) face a steep weight rise here. Sharmardashing has Matt McGuren aboard and his 3kg claim is a huge bonus. Winmara is a mudlark and the wet brings roughie Kevejohn in for the exotics.
Race 4: Appears a race of many chances. Arctic meets topweight What About Me a kilo better for their last meeting and should strip fitter. Heathcote pair Bevico Girl and Defenceman can improve. Rocksan landed a plonk at the Gold Coast last start and is right in the mix. Value for the exotics include on-pacer Carlson’s Felt and Stage Exit.
Race 5: Looks ready made for Santo De Lago, another solid ride for McGuren. Garozzo third-up and heavy track winner, can improve. I’llbetricked and Telesto big odds and value hopes in the bog.
Race 6: Patinack’s Mr Armstrong looks well placed here. Consistent, heavy track winner and coming off a second in Listed company. Nice to see Jasminka run a race last start, her and stablemate Meet George could fill the placings. Worth monitoring if betting moves for Streets Away.
Race 7: Starlin is super consistent and rarely runs a bad race this track. Rapid Leica Dane yet to win here in 7 starts. De Bois nicely weighted with claim, Trombone Alley rock hard fit, Delago Pilli ran mighty race last start.
Race 8: Cape Kidnappers is promising but short odds on a bog, at the end of an eight race card is not appealing. If the pattern of racing has favoured on-pacers Thefifthhole will be hard to run down. Inventory and Celtic Dancer should run on.
